Shot made in Shoup Bay, near Valdez. The Shoup Glacier is a 17 miles long tidewater glacier and named for one of the the first US marshals asigned to Alaska. Katmai : View over Sikshak River and the vast wilderness of Katmai in Southwest Alaska. It was proclaimed a National Park in 1980. This isolated location is not accessible by road so we travel within these region by bushplane. With the largest population of bears in the world, we had great opportunities to see the wild animals up close against breathtaking landscapes as a backdrop! Not in a City : Glaciers begin in clouds such as these in the Chugach Mountains. Over time, falling snow piles up in mountain recesses, and ever so slowly the weight of accumulating snow compact lower layers into dense ice. When the ice becomes thick enough, it starts to remove downhill. Shot made on a flight from Anchorage to Amsterdam (Nikon D3000).
